|Innovative Internet application development
Fully interactive 3D modeling
High-quality graphics for the web and printed publications
Hi! I'm Dean. I have over 25 years experience
developing and deploying a wide range of applications on IBM mainframes,
networks, the Internet and various handheld devices and my Point of Sale
software has been in use throughout the Middle East for over 15 years.
Over the past five years I've concentrated on Internet based
applications for the real estate market and, in particular, fully
interactive online 3D models.
|Exotica Furniture Dubai, UAE|
Exotica sells antique furniture, ornaments and decorative pieces from
the Far East. Its customers range from the passer-by interested in a
single bronze statue to interior designers creating a theme for a top
hotel or restaurant. To this extent the web site allows the entire
collection to be browsed or specific items to be plucked from the
collection based on a wide range of attributes. Visitors to the site can
create portfolios of items that can be sent by email and used to
generate reserved lists and invoices.
The site relies heavily on visuals and with no permanent stock lines it requires the uploading of around 500 photos following receipt of each shipment, which is a time consuming task. So I commissioned the development of a small piece of software that automatically resizes and compresses photos and then uploads them to the site on entry of a password. Web developers are welcome to use this software free of charge - it's great for populating a folder at the start!
There is still some work to do with this site, for example I intend to provide a stock look-up usin the showroom images for people who enjoy browsing around the store.
|Duflix Movies Dubai, UAE|
Duflix is possibly the longest running DVD/CD/Games shop in Dubai with
5,000+ regular customers. However, following two years of recession and
the introduction of Internet based movie rentals the business has seen a
downturn in both sales and rentals. In an attempt to reverse fortunes I
was commissioned to create a web site from which customers could reserve
items online for rental or purchase. The result is a very interactive
site from where registered users can drag-and-drop movies to create
their own libraries.
A unique feature of this design is the ability to view lists based on the attributes of one or more movies. Search results are prioritized according to the frequency of actors and genres within the customer's library. Try it for yourself here.
The dynamic nature of the underlying database also lends itself to some entertaining games, the first of which, called "Movie Poker", uses a heuristic model to present actors and movies in a game of poker.
